At Roseberry, we want every child to experience success in every French lesson and develop the confidence to communicate in another language.

We recognise that learning a modern foreign language broadens horizons, creates opportunities and develops children's understanding of the wider world. Our intention is to provide a high-quality French curriculum that inspires a love of language learning, celebrates cultural diversity and equips pupils with the knowledge and skills they need for future learning.

Our French curriculum is designed to foster children's natural curiosity about different languages, cultures and traditions. Through engaging and progressive learning experiences, pupils develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills whilst building confidence in communicating in French. They are encouraged to use accurate pronunciation, expand their vocabulary and understand how language works.

We have high expectations for all pupils and aim for every child to achieve their full potential. As children progress through Key Stage 2, they develop the confidence to engage in spoken French, read and understand simple texts, write for a range of purposes and appreciate the value of learning another language.

Alongside developing linguistic knowledge, our curriculum promotes respect, curiosity and appreciation for other cultures, helping pupils become informed and responsible global citizens. The communication, listening and problem-solving skills developed through language learning are transferable across the curriculum and support children's wider personal and academic development.

Ultimately, we aim to inspire a lifelong interest in languages so that pupils leave Roseberry with the confidence, curiosity and motivation to continue language learning beyond primary school.
