PE

At Roseberry, we believe that every child should experience success in every Physical Education lesson and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

Our Physical Education curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils to enjoy being physically active whilst developing competence, resilience and a lifelong appreciation of sport and physical activity. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum that enables children to participate in a wide range of individual and team activities, developing fundamental movement skills alongside increasingly complex physical, tactical and social skills as they progress through school.

We have high expectations for every pupil and provide opportunities for all children to be challenged, achieve success and experience both competitive and non-competitive physical activities. Through high-quality teaching, pupils develop physical competence, coordination, balance, agility and control, providing strong foundations for future participation in sport and physical activity.

Our curriculum reflects the principles of the Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) programme, promoting positive attitudes towards physical activity, teamwork, leadership, fairness and perseverance. Children learn the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise, healthy eating and an understanding of how physical activity benefits both physical and mental wellbeing. Where appropriate, meaningful links are made across the curriculum, particularly with science, to deepen pupils' understanding of how the body functions during exercise.

Beyond curriculum lessons, we provide a wide range of opportunities for pupils to participate in competitive sport, festivals and enrichment activities, enabling them to represent Roseberry with pride and develop confidence in different sporting environments. A varied programme of extra-curricular clubs, partnerships with local sports organisations and opportunities to engage with community and professional sporting events further enrich pupils' experiences and encourage lifelong participation in physical activity.

Ultimately, we aim to develop physically literate, confident and motivated young people who value health, wellbeing and active lifestyles, leaving Roseberry with the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to remain active throughout their lives.
