At Roseberry, we want every child to experience success in every Religious Education lesson and develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to engage thoughtfully with a diverse range of religious and non-religious worldviews.

Our Religious Education curriculum follows the Stockton-on-Tees Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, providing pupils with opportunities to explore beliefs, values and practices whilst developing respect, curiosity and understanding of the diverse communities in which they live. Through the study of religion and belief, children learn both about religions and worldviews and from them, encouraging them to reflect upon their own experiences, beliefs and values.

The curriculum develops pupils' ability to think critically and engage with complex questions about meaning, purpose, identity, morality and belonging. In line with the Stockton Agreed Syllabus, pupils are supported to develop a range of disciplinary skills, including:

Alongside these skills, Religious Education promotes the development of important personal dispositions, including:

Religious Education makes a significant contribution to pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development by providing opportunities for reflection, discussion and respectful dialogue. It encourages children to consider different perspectives, appreciate diversity and develop an informed understanding of the beliefs, values and traditions that shape individuals and communities.

Our curriculum also supports pupils in becoming active, responsible citizens by promoting mutual respect, tolerance and understanding of different faiths and worldviews. Through meaningful discussion and enquiry, children develop the confidence to express their own views respectfully whilst recognising and valuing those of others. In doing so, Religious Education plays an important role in preparing pupils for life in modern Britain, supporting the promotion of British Values and fostering the knowledge, empathy and respect needed to thrive in a diverse society.

Ultimately, we aim for every pupil to leave Roseberry with a secure understanding of religious and non-religious worldviews, the confidence to think critically and reflectively, and the ability to engage respectfully with people whose beliefs, values and experiences may differ from their own.
