At Roseberry Primary School, we are committed to promoting the social, emotional and mental wellbeing of every child, alongside supporting the wellbeing of our staff, families and wider school community. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued, respected and supported, and we strive to provide a nurturing environment where every child can flourish both academically and personally.
Our aim is for every pupil to develop confidence, resilience, self-belief and a strong sense of belonging. We encourage children to celebrate their individuality, value others and develop the skills they need to build positive relationships throughout their lives. We also believe that every child should feel listened to and know that their voice matters. Through pupil leadership opportunities, regular consultation and a culture of openness and respect, we ensure that children play an active role in shaping our school community.
The Department for Education recognises that:
"In order to help their pupils succeed, schools have a role to play in supporting them to be resilient and mentally healthy. Moreover, schools have a duty to promote the wellbeing of pupils."
Wellbeing is embedded throughout life at Roseberry Primary School. It is promoted through our curriculum, positive relationships, pastoral support, enrichment opportunities and our commitment to creating a culture where children feel happy, secure and ready to learn.
Our pastoral team works closely with pupils, families and external agencies to ensure that support is available whenever it is needed. We are committed to identifying concerns early and providing timely intervention so that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Where appropriate, trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) provide targeted emotional support for children experiencing social, emotional or mental health difficulties. ELSA is a nationally recognised programme developed by Educational Psychologists to help children understand and manage their emotions, develop coping strategies and build emotional resilience.
At Roseberry Primary School, we want every member of our community to feel happy, healthy, supported and inspired to achieve their very best.

At Roseberry Primary School, we believe that emotional wellbeing is fundamental to children's success both in school and beyond. We are proud to work in partnership with Place2Be, the UK's leading children's mental health charity, to provide specialist mental health and emotional wellbeing support for our pupils.
Place2Be is recognised nationally for its evidence-informed, whole-school approach to mental health. Their work helps schools create environments where children feel safe, understood and ready to learn, whilst also providing support for families and staff.

Early intervention plays a vital role in supporting children's emotional wellbeing and future outcomes. By offering access to specialist mental health support within the familiar environment of school, children can receive help when they need it most.
The service helps pupils develop confidence, resilience, emotional literacy and positive coping strategies. Evidence from Place2Be demonstrates improvements in children's emotional wellbeing, relationships, school engagement and attendance, highlighting the value of providing accessible mental health support within schools.
Our partnership with Place2Be reflects our commitment to ensuring that every child feels safe, valued, heard and supported. We believe that positive mental health underpins successful learning, healthy relationships and lifelong wellbeing, and we are proud to invest in services that enable every child to flourish.
At Roseberry Primary School, we use the Zones of Regulation to help children develop emotional awareness, self-regulation and resilience. We believe that learning to recognise, understand and manage emotions is an essential life skill that supports both academic success and personal wellbeing.
The Zones of Regulation curriculum provides children with a shared language to identify how they are feeling using four coloured zones. It teaches pupils that all emotions are normal and helps them understand how different feelings influence their thoughts, behaviours and interactions with others.
Through regular teaching and discussion, children learn strategies to regulate their emotions, recognise personal triggers, solve problems, understand the perspectives of others and make positive choices. The programme also develops children's emotional vocabulary, social awareness and independence.
Learning is carefully sequenced across the school. In the Early Years, children begin by recognising and naming basic emotions and learning simple strategies to regulate their feelings. As they move through Key Stages 1 and 2, pupils develop a deeper understanding of emotional regulation, empathy, relationships and how their behaviour affects both themselves and others.
By embedding the Zones of Regulation throughout school life, we help our pupils become emotionally aware, resilient and equipped with the skills they need to navigate challenges both now and in the future.
